Using Antiques to Decorate Your Home

Do you have a passion for antiques? If you do, then why not decide to decorate your entire home from an era from days gone by? Home decorating is made a lot simpler if you choose to use hand-me-downs from your grandmother or great-grandmother. You can get some pretty good wear and tear out of items which not only look pretty but also make a room very functional.

Below is a list of some ideas for home decorating that you are sure to find appealing and hopefully will be able to use in your own home when decorating is on your mind and you have a house full of antiques to place somewhere!

* Do you remember the old army trunks many people used in the early 1950's? Probably not. Whether they were used or not may be hard to tell but many antique stores sell these old trunks which offer so much character to a home. You can use the interior of the trunk to store your Christmas decorations and any shabby chic décor you don't use in your daughter's room currently while using the trunk itself to hold family photos which are placed in vintage frames to match the trunk no less! * Interior decorating classes can give you an idea of where to place some of these items of yesterday or you can just order a couple of interior decorating magazines for good ideas on what to place where. * Do you like collecting old stuffed animals and dolls? If so, then you need a settee to place these things on for a beautiful display to hold some of your decorator stuffed animals and antique dolls. You'll love to place the baby dolls from Madame Alexander on an antique settee which looks like it came straight from the drawing room of an old vintage home or brothel. The settees are something you can usually pick up at an older antique store, online at eBay or at a local auction. Since the settee is shaped like a sofa, you can only imagine how much room you will have to display all of your older treasures. * If you have an antique desk, why not gather some old Time magazines or LOOK magazines and place them in an old magazine rack at the foot of the desk while stacking old books such as the Uncle Tom's Cabin on top for visitors to take a glance through when walking around your home. * A Large Keepsake Trunk is one which you can use to keep things in for your children while using it for additional seating in the living room or den. Decorators know how to make the most of all of their decorating items. If you have a decorative antique trunk made of wood and sturdy to hold one or two human bodies, then throw a few cushions on it and now you have additional seating for your family and guests.

Ideas for interior decorating usually begin to flow in once you get your creative juices flowing in the direction of decorating with antiques. You should use the opportunity to discover more about the antiques and where they come from so you will have a story to tell about each piece which will enable you to share and pass along a little family history.
